Team Fiji Struggles To Find Rhythm
While last night’s golden lift in weightlifting by Manueli Tulo has been a morale boost for the side, Team Manager Chris Yee is hoping for outstanding results from the athletes tonight.
Yee said the main challenge for the athletes is that they do not have any inside information on their opponents.
Tonight, Team Fiji athletes will take part in the 100 metres, 400 metres, and 4 by 100 metres relay heats where the likes of Mataiasi Savou, Banuve Tabakaucoro, Isoa Me, Paulini Korowaqa and Akesa Drotini will take part.
Last night Fiji started on a high note when 18 year old weightlifter, Manueli Tulo won gold in the 56kg category.
The win has placed Fiji in 2nd spot in the overall medal standing while India leads with 3 gold and 1 silver.
But Team Fiji they failed to find their rhythm in the shooting and badminton events.
In shooting, Jerad Frost now lies in 6th position and will have to wait for his final two rounds tonight, to know whether he will be grouped with the top 6 shooters to qualify for the next round.
In badminton, Devarasi Sharma won by default after his Kenyan opponent Jiten Patel did not turn up. While he has qualified for the second round he will have to meet up with 4th seeded Paul Van of Scotland.
Steven Wong lost 21-6 to 3rd seed Martin Campbell of Scotland.
