Team Fiji has so far won 2 silver and a bronze medal after the opening day of the Oceania Grand Prix championship in Saipan.

Long distance runner Isireli Naikelekelevesi took the silver medal in the Open Men's 1500 meters final when he finished his race in a time of 3 minutes 59:51 seconds. Samoa's Aunese Curren won the Gold medal.

Fiji's Javelin throw specialist Leslie Copeland also had to settle for silver in the Shot Put event with a throw of 13.36 meters. New Caledonia's Daniel Kilama was placed first.

Suva Grammar School sprinter Makelesi Tumalevu won the bronze medal in the Women’s 100 meters final with a time of 12.49 seconds. Papua New Guinea's Mae Koimo won the final.

In the Men's 100 meters final, Iowane Dovumatua was placed outside the top three. The race was won by Papua New Guinea's Kupun Wisil.

Meanwhile Fiji's Eugene Vollmer had to withdraw from the Triple Jump after he received injuries from the first jump.

Team Fiji's Niko Verekauta, Paulini Korowaqa and Akesa Drotini are yet to compete in their events.
