The Education Ministry has called on the representatives of the Tikinas in the Lau Provincial Council to ensure that the teacher’s transferred to the outer islands are not bullied by the villagers.

Divisional Education Eastern, Parayame Cakacaka raised a concern that some new female teachers are being abused by males in the villages.

Cakacaka said these teachers are young and new to a different environment and they need all the support they can get from the headmen and leaders of the village.

Meanwhile the Ministry is also looking at students who are faced with drug abuse.

During the meeting, the Tikina rep from Lakeba, Malakai Sobanivalu said some boys in their village are seen to be taking homebrew and is calling for the authorities to look into the matter.
