A primary school teacher who allegedly assaulted 26 students with a hose pipe in Saqani last week is expected to appear in Labasa court this morning.

The teacher was charged with five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 21 counts of common assault late yesterday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Education Minister Filipe Bole confirmed to Fijivillage that he has received a preliminary report and the teacher has now been suspended pending investigations.

Bole added that several circulars have been issued on corporal punishments in schools but the teachers are not adhering to the directives.

Bole added teachers are well aware of the "NO CORPORAL PUNISHMENT" stand and if they continue to defy this directive, then they are jeopardising their career in the teaching field.
