Police have taken a 36 year old Primary school teacher into custody for allegedly raping a 17 year old girl on a few occasions in Labasa.
Assistant Police Spokesperson, Sergent Suliano Tevita confirms the alleged incident took place between April last year and early this year.
Sergent Tevita said the girl was feeling sick last year and was unable to attend school. The parents than took the girl to the teacher who also specialises in healing sick patients with herbal medicines.
According to Police, the teacher than allegedly took the girl to hotels a few times and raped her. The matter was reported to Police after the girl told her mother about the incident.
Sergent Tevita said the teacher is expected to be charged once they complete their investigation.
