The School teacher from Saqani, who is alleged to have assaulted 26 students with a hose pipe has been charged with five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and 21 counts of assault.
Police Spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri confirmed that charges were laid in the last hour and the teacher is expected to appear in the Labasa Magistrates court tomorrow morning.
Earlier this afternoon, Education Minister Filipe Bole confirmed to Fijivillage news that he had received a preliminary report and the teacher has now been suspended pending investigations.
Bole added that several circulars have been issued on corporal punishments in schools but the teachers are not adhering to the directives.
