Teacher Charged For Hitting Student
Divisional Crime Officer Eastern, ASP Ramesh Chand confirmed the incident took place at midday yesterday when students were having their lunch break and noise was heard by the teacher coming from the classroom.
According to ASP Chand, the teacher allegedly slapped the student on the ear resulting in a cut, which then started to bleed.
The student later reported the matter to Police after which the teacher was charged and has been released on bail. He will appear in Nausori Magistrate Court on 2nd June.
The Education Ministry earlier stressed that corporal punishment is forbidden in schools.
Meanwhile, Lautoka Police are looking for three men who allegedly assaulted a man last night.
Police confirms the man was sleeping at his home in Waiyavi when three men entered the house and took him to an isolated spot before assaulting him.
He received serious injuries and is admitted at the Lautoka hospital.
