Teach students how to behave in public transport
General Secretary, Rohit Latchan said drivers cannot fully supervise each student as they have to control the bus. According to Latchan teachers should take full responsibility for the safety of students during school patrols.
He said buses look overloaded as students are not sitting properly in the seats provided. Latchan said in 60 passenger buses there is a capacity of 88 students. Often students are seen trying to get on moving buses, rushing to get window seats, hanging out of the bus windows which may cause major accidents.
His comments came after a student of a Suva school injured his right foot in a bus accident earlier this week.
Head teacher of Dudley Intermediate, Kolonio Takali said they are trying to find out what led to the road accident as it’s unfortunate that such an incident happened. However they have teachers on school patrol responsible for the safety of students.
Takali adds he spoke to police regarding this case and is not fully aware about the accident.
