Taxies should operate 24/7-LTA
These are the words of the Regional Manager Central/Eastern for the Land Transport Authority, Uday Raj Singh.
Singh said it is not written on the taxi permit however the intention is there that once a permit is issued the permit holder must provide services anytime requested.
He said a sole taxi owner should be providing services for 13 hours a day while taxi bases should be open for 24 hours, seven days.
Singh said the Taxi operators have been advised to operate 24/7 in order to keep away illegal operators as their absence from taxi stands opens up the opportunity for illegal operators to come in.
He said the LTA Board has endorsed the concept of giving taxi permits to only those people who will be able to provide services 24 hours for seven days in future.
Singh's comment comes after LTA received complaints that some taxi bases do not provide services after nine o'clock at night.
