Taxi drivers cannot exist without passengers and it is only right to be fair to them.
That is the sentiment of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) as many people are raising concerns on the blatant disregard of LTA Regulations when it comes to illegal operations and the non-use of taxi meters.
Spokesperson Ratu Eroni Volavola said what taxi drivers need to realize is that a taxi on its own cannot pay for fuel and operation costs.
This is after Fijivillage was informed by a member of the public that over the weekend, he hired a cab from the Nadi Airport to Namaka and was charged $8 whereas the fare in a taxi using a meter is about $3.
Ratu Volavola said that the Law is already in place and if drivers continue to disregard the Law on the use of meters, their license will be taken away.
