Taxi drivers play an important role in the reporting of child prostitution or even child abuse.

Save the Children Fiji Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children Project Officer, Amita Prasad raised this sentiment as member of community councils, NGOs and even Government Ministries gathered for the first ever workshop on combating child trafficking and sexual exploitation of children.

Prasad said this since many people depend on taxis as a mode of travel, adding taxi drivers should alert Police when they pick up school children and drop them at places where children should not be such as hotels and motels or even when they see suspicious people picking up children.

Meanwhile, those in attendance were also informed that for the first three months of this year seventy seven sexual abuse cases against children were reported while 116 cases were reported for last year.

The workshop in Suva is expected to end this afternoon.
