With the increase in the number of taxi drivers being assaulted, the Fiji Taxi Union will petition the Police to ensure the safety of drivers.
General Secretary Rishi Ram said that they have noticed that on average at least one driver is attacked in a week and added they will petition Police for extra security if this number increases.
The latest incident is where a taxi driver was assaulted in Namadi Heights over the weekend with Police searching for his taxi registration LT 1673 which they believe may be used in a planned robbery.
