Taxi owners are being asked to exercise caution this festive season.

Fiji Taxi Union Generls Secretary Rishi Ram said that at the moment there is an increased demand for taxi services as many people are doing last minute Christmas Shopping.

Ram added that with this increase, many people will be flagging down taxis and even stepping on the road to stop them which may cause accidents.

Meanwhile, Ram has requested drivers to be on the alert when picking up passengers who may be drunk or look suspicious.

This follows the alleged murder of Sigatoka Taxi driver Mohammed Nasir last week by two of his passengers who were also from the same area.

It is alleged that the two hired Nasir' taxi and upon reaching their destination, stabbed him and abandoned his body.
