The Fiji Taxi Union (FTU) is expected to get an indication this morning as to whether their plea for a deferment in the date to change all taxi metres to the new flagfall rate, is accepted.
After meeting with the Transport Ministry late yesterday, Fiji Taxi Union General Secretary Rishi Ram said they have lodged their complaint however a confirmed date is yet to be finalized.
Ram said that the date to set all metres will be very hard as they have over 5,000 taxi operators and only three companies that calibrate the metres.
A directive had been issued by the interim government and LTA to reduce the flagfall rate of taxi fares from $1.50 to $1 from 6am to 10pm and $2 to $1.50 from 10pm to 6am from this Thursday.
Meanwhile, LTA in a paid advertisement this morning said that if Taxi Operators do not follow the directive and have their metres changed, they will be booked.
Interim Transport Minister Timoci Natuva and LTA CEO Etuate Koroi are expected to comment later on the issue.
