The Transport Minister Timoci Natuva has issued a directive to the Land Transport to reduce the taxi fare flag fall tariff by 50 cents effective from the 5th of February.

Spokesperson Sainiana Waqainabete said following the reduction of fuel prices, the Interim Government decided in all fairness and justice to people of Fiji to reduce the taxi fare tariff.

Waqainabete said the increase in tariff was on the basis of the Taxi Union's outcry and justification used by the Fiji Taxi Union for application which was approved by the former line Minister in January 2008.

She adds there is no financial justification for Government to retain the increase in taxi fare flag fall tariff rate.
