Interim Finance Minister Mahendra Chaudhry has clarified that any call for investigation to be carried out against any interim minister for evading taxes has to be directed to the Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority.
Chaudhry said a lot has been said about the issue and people should just go to FIRCA for clarification.
Meanwhile, FIRCA maintains that it will not engage in a debate over the unsubstantiated claims against an interim minister.
FIRCA Board Chairman Filipe Bole when contacted by Village news said FIRCA has made its stance known that there are no interim ministers who have outstanding tax issues and those who wish to pursue the matter with the Police are free to do so.
Bole reiterated that the allegations are not from within FIRCA and stressed that they are legally bound not to reveal any information on any taxpayer and no exceptions will be made.
