Tax evaders have been given one last chance to come forward and pay their dues as the Ministry of Finance has announced that the Tax Amnesty will be extended until December 31st, 2007.

In a statement issued in the last hour, Fiji Islands Revenue and Customs Authority CEO Jitoko Tikolevu confirms that at the completion of the one month program, the Ministry of Finance has received numerous requests to extend the amnesty period.

Tikolevu said since the inception of the program, FIRCA has received positive participation, collecting over $14 million with over 3000 applications received.

However, he said the initial one month period starting October 16th to November 16th has not been sufficient for some taxpayers to compile and complete their accounts.

The CEO said in extending the amnesty, the interim government is mindful that our business community needs support to fully recover from hardships that has been created by factors beyond their control.
