Taunovo Bay Resort Management-employees reaches agreement
Chief Operating Officer, Tony Alfaro said they are working with the Labour Department to clear off the dues owed in their weekly pay.
On claims by the employees of the resort that they were only getting paid $40 a week since October last year, Alfaro said employees work different number of hours and have different wage rates, and they are paid various amounts.
He re-iterated that dues will be cleared in six weeks.
Alfaro adds they have issued redundancy notices for some workers during the low season and they will be given redundancy packages.
He confirms the resort has about 80 workers in the High season and currently reduced to 50 during Low season.
Alfaro said they have four significant bookings of the Resort from March to July this year.
According to Alfaro, effects from the low season has simply caused this problem, and they are committed to their staff as they invested over $100 million in the Taunovo Bay resort during the last ten years they have been in the country.
During the High season the resort has occupancy rates of 70 to 100% and in the Low season the rate is between 25% to 60%.
Alfaro adds almost all the investors of Taunovo Bay are from USA and local banks have also financed the project.
Meanwhile, the Labour Ministry officials are expected to meet with the management later this week.
