The Chief Executive Officer of the Consumer Council of Fiji said that the interim government's decision to increase tariff Band on imported items by 27% to 32% has come as a surprise to them.
Premila Kumar said that many items included in the list are essential for many people daily and many items are not even produced in Fiji.
The items will come under the 37% tariff band from January 1st, 2009.
