High Court Judge Justice Isikeli Mataitoga has acquitted Josefa Tapele of all charges laid against him in relation to the Agriculture Scam in 2000 and 2001.

In his ruling, Justice Mataitoga stated that prosecution had failed to provide sufficient evidence against Tapele for his involvement in the scam and after listening to the evidence provided against him, he is satisfied that Tapele had no case to answer.

50-year-old Tapele was charged with allegedly receiving around $280 in relation to the agriculture scam.

Speaking to Fijivillage after his acquittal, Tapele said this is the best gift for Father’s day from the Father himself.

He said for the past 6 years it was an experience like being in prison with his name being defamed with false allegations.

He said his main priority right now is to regain his employment in the civil service as he had been on suspension since being charged.

Meanwhile, the case continues against the other two accused, Pita Alifereti and Peli Kete in the high court.
