Tanivula’s fate to be known tomorrow
It’s been 14 months and the Digicel Fiji 7s team has not won one IRB Sevens tournament.
Are the Fiji fans too demanding?
Are the players incapable of delivering a win?
Does the coach have what it takes to bring Fiji the win?
These questions have many answers.
However the Fiji Rugby Union’s Interim Chairman Rafaele Kasibulu has told Fijivillage that the fact remains that Fiji’s performance in the Australia 7s was one of the most disappointing ones in many years.
Kasibulu said the Fiji coach, Iliesa Tanivula selected the best players in the country but it has not worked well.
He said the FRU Games Committee will sit this week to assess what went wrong.
Tanivula has reportedly said that the players did opposite of what he told them in the Australia 7s.
But Kasibulu said he wonders what the game plan was.
Kasibulu has made it clear that Tanivula’s performance will be reviewed.
He said it is the coaching that they are concerned about as the Digicel Fiji 7s team is made up of the country’s best players.
Fiji lost to South Africa in the Australia 7s Cup quarter final by 24-12.
The team later lost to Wales by 22-21 in the plate semi final.
The team arrived in the country late last night.
The management team will face the FRU Games Committee tomorrow.
