"It's time to move on!"
These are the words of relieved Digicel Fiji 7s coach Iliesa Tanivula after the decision was made by the FRU Board this afternoon.
It’s official.
Iliesa Tanivula has been relieved from his post of Digicel Fiji 7s coach effective from today.
Following Tanivula's removal, the Fiji Rugby Union Board has endorsed Assistant Coach, Josateki Savou as Tanivula's replacement for the last two legs of the IRB 7s series in London and Scotland only.
Tanivula was taken out after the Fiji 7s team remained winless for 14 months.
The FRU Games Committee met with Tanivula this morning and conveyed him the decision of the board to relieve him from the position.
Meanwhile the FRU has identified a group of potential 7s coaches whose teams have been performing well consistently in local competitions.
It said these coaches will be given the opportunity to apply for the vacant post once they have received training provided by the HPU and Development Unit.
A new coach will be selected by the incoming board of directors after the FRU AGM on the 30th of this month.
