Viti National Union of Taukei Workers General Secretary, Taniela Tabu, is now calling on the police to investigate an interim minister who is allegedly evading taxes.
Tabu has revealed that he has written to FICAC and the Interim Prime Minister, and has also met with Deputy Police Commissioner, Eroni Antonio for investigations to proceed.
While Tabu had earlier told Village News that he would be submitting newspaper cuttings as documentary evidence, he now said that he has managed to gather some necessary documents.
Interim Prime Minister, Commodore Frank Bainimarama had earlier said that any one who has evidence that some interim ministers are not paying their dues should contact FICAC.
Meanwhile the Chairman of Fiji Island Revenue and Customs Authority has expressed concern about tax evasion reports in the media against a minister in the Interim Government.
Filipe Bole said FIRCA believes a few officers who are under investigation for defrauding the state of tax revenue, are orchestrating the campaign, without any substance. Bole said that FIRCA has suspended three staff and sent one senior official on leave pending investigations, after a number of staff was allegedly involved in a VAT refund scam and for manipulating their own tax positions.
He said FIRCA has not released any information about any taxpayer and has also denied that tax files and information have been released to any minister in the Interim Government, as alleged in newspaper reports.
