The landowners in Macuata are in talks with the Native Land Trust Board to renew land leases for cane farming.
Tui Macuata Ratu Aisea Katonivere said they had decided to renew land leases for the good of the country given that a large number of leases continue to expire each year.
According to Katonivere a lot of land is lying idle and both the landowners and tenants continue to suffer. He said it was time to address the issue.
The Tui Macuata added that was crucial that the plight of the farmer is considered as they have been forced to move out and settle elsewhere.
Katonivere said the landowners of Macuata want both the landowners and the tenants to benefit.
