“I am ready if given a chance.”

This is the word of Marist Red playmaker Jerry Tuwai after being named in the Vodafone Fiji 7s 18 member squad to prepare for the next leg of the IRB World 7s Series.

Tuwai was one of the outstanding players at the Fiji Bitter Marist 7s over the weekend as he mesmerized his opponents with his dazzling footwork and speed.

The former Bishop Kempthorne Memorial School student says hard work has really paid off for him.

The 24-year-old from Buca, Cakaudrove was also the top try scorer in last year’s tournament and was overlooked by former coach Alifereti Dere.

Being brought up from a humble upbringing where his dad who is a diver and his mum has to work as a house girl to support his two brothers and sisters, Tuwai said he never lost hope and was always encouraged by his parents to keep on pushing for a spot in the national side.

Tuwai added he is willing to put his body on the line and prove his worth in the national team.

Tuwai started his rugby career playing for the Newtown Rugby club in Nasinu and was a member of the victorious Naitasiri team that won the Fiji TV Provincial 7s in 2010.

Meanwhile, the Vodafone Fiji 7s squad marches into camp this Wednesday and coach Ben Ryan says he will name his final 12 member team this Friday.

Fiji is pooled with Samoa, France and USA for the Japan 7s which is on the 22nd and 23rd of this month.
