Jiuta Takubu’s dream of playing for the Digicel Fiji 7s side started when he was at Ratu Navula College five years ago.

The 24-year-old from Namotomoto village in Nadi made his debut for Fiji in the Fiji Water Centennial Oceania 7s last weekend where he put up a brilliant performance both on attack and defense.

Takubu who will play in Gold Coast this weekend said he never thought of representing Fiji until 2009 when he represented Ratu Navula in fifteens and sevens.

Takubu added it’s special to be one of the first local players to play under Ben Ryan.

Takubu was a regular at number eight for Nadi in this year’s Digicel Cup.

Nadi coach Iliesa Tanivula said Takubu is a disciplined and skillful player who has great knowledge of the game but needs to be exposed to the international arena.

Takubu will play in the Gold Cost 7s which kicks off at 12.30pm Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Fiji 7s team will leave tonight and will play its first match of the Gold Coast 7s against Canada at 1.58pm Saturday.

Fiji’s second match is against Portugal at 5.14pm and the last pool match will be against Wales at 9.24pm.

The Cup quarterfinals start at 1.58pm on Sunday, Cup semis kick off at 5.58pm and the Cup final will be played at 9.04pm.
