Takayawa Senior laid to rest today
Takayawa, who made his name in Judo passed away last week at his home in Tacirua.
Hundreds of people were gathered at the Centenary Church today to pay their last respects.
Team Fiji General Manager, Chris Yee who spoke on behalf of FASANOC said Takayawa was not only a top sports personality but also a good businessman.
Takayawa's son, Vili Jnr said that they have lost a great father, a man who taught them how to tackle life=s obstacles and become good people.
Takayawa was the founder of the Fiji Judo Association.
He went on to become our first judoka to win gold at the 1979 South Pacific Games and, in 1982 was honoured as Fiji Sportsman of the Year.
In 1984, Takayawa was selected as Fiji's flag bearer to the Los Angeles Summer Olympics.
Takayawa, who is survived by his wife and five sons, was buried at the 9 miles cemetery in Nasinu.
