This is after they edged Naitasiri 16-14 with a last minute penalty kick from former Naitasiri playmaker Amani Bosenawai last night.
Tailevu scored the first try in the third minute of the second half to Joe Dakuitoga with two penalties to James Vuli.
Maika Ligaqaqa scored Naitasiri’s only try late in the second half while captain Waisea Luveniyali kicked three penalties but could not help his side retain the Farebrother trophy.
Tailevu had the services of Flying Fijians lock forward Leone Nakarawa and former national 7s reps Aminiasi Nava and Manueli Gade.
Naitasiri was boosted with the return of former Flying Fijians winger Mosese Luveitasau, Nasoni Roko, captain Waisea Luveniyali and veteran Senivalati Vunibola.
Luveitasau was replaced in the first half due to injury.
The last time Tailevu met Naitasiri in a Farebrother match was in 2007 where the Highlanders lost 6-10 and Mosese Luveitasau was the only player from that clash who was still in the current Naitasiri team.
Tailevu will now face Nadroga in the final challenge of the year next Saturday.
