Tadra Kahani off to powerful start

It was a powerful start to Tadra Kahani 2009 as four Primary and four Secondary schools took to the stage to battle it out for a spot in the finals for both the Junior and Senior Division titles respectively.

First to take to the stage last night sharing their messages, were in the Junior Division, International School Suva, Rishikul Primary School, St John Boscoe Primary School and Bainivalu Primary. In the Senior Division were Suva Grammar School, Rishikul Sanatan College, Sila Central High School and Lomary Secondary School.

With strong themes ranging from education eradicates poverty and crime, the power of the media, the handcuffs of poverty right upto parental negligence, the audience was held captivated by the different performances highlighting issues students thought needs to be addressed.

Defending Champions in the Senior Division, Rishikul Sanatan College who used the theme, "Yellow Ribbon - Acceptance", took to stage last night showing how important people needed to give offenders a second chance.

Student representative, Sarafina Feresi, said that there was only one message they were told and that was to change people's views about prisoners.

Meanwhile, first timers to the event, Lomary Secondary all the way from Galoa who took up the theme, 'Appreciation of the rights of a child" stunned the audience with their performance.

Student Rep, Papamama Pokino said their theme coupled with the energy from the students helped reach out to the audience.

Following the performances we asked some people what they thought of the issues highlighted by students.

Sixty students from Khalsa College all the way from Ba have learnt alot from their months of preparations with students excited about performing tonight for the first time at Tadra Kahani.

Based on the theme " a portrayal of hope after destruction" Student Representative Pritam Singh said their theme came about after the January floods and how well Ba coped with it.

Tonight in the Junior Division will be Nabitu District School, Nakelo District School, Pacific Harbour Multi-Racial School and Dilkusha Girls Primary.

In the Senior Division, Tavua District, Cuvu College, Khalsa College, Tavua College, RKS and St Vincent College.
