With one day left for the inaugural Sydney 7s, the question that is still stuck on every Fijian fan’s mind is the lack of speed in the national team.

Vodafone Fiji 7 coach Ben Ryan says they have beaten USA which have speed merchants like Perry Baker and Carlin Isles on the last four occasions and defeated South Africa twice in their last three games.

Ryan has not done the final selection for this weekend.

The 16 captains gathered to launch the Sydney Sevens at the Luna Park in Sydney yesterday with the round four of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series fast approaching this weekend.

A lot of excitement awaits at the Allianz Stadium and both days have been sold‑out.

There have been three different champions in the three tournaments so far with the Vodafone Fiji 7s team winning in Dubai, South Africa winning in Cape Town and New Zealand in Wellington.

New Zealand’s victory in Wellington moved them from seventh to third in the series standings and captain Tim Mikkelson says they continue to remain focused.

Meanwhile, the Australia 7s team’s new trainee Quade Cooper says his current focus is learning to get the basics in sevens rugby right.

Barring any upsets, the national side is expected to meet Kenya, or Scotland in the quarterfinal and meet New Zealand in the semifinal.

Fiji is pooled with Samoa, Argentina and France.

They will take on Samoa at 12pm Saturday in their first pool game.
