Pacific sprint king Banuve Tabakaucoro has his last shot to qualify for the Rio Olympics in the Melanesian Games from today to Saturday.

His personal best in the 100 metres is 10.22 seconds and 20.53 seconds in the 200 metres, however Tabakaucoro will have to drop his time to 10.16 seconds and 20.50 seconds if he is serious about competing against the world's best.

Athletics Fiji team Manager Calvin Yee is calling out to all Fijians to come and support the athletes who will be participating in the three day championship.

13 nations and more than 700 athletes and officials will be participating as they aim to qualify for the Rio Olympics.

Meanwhile another runner who is vying for a spot in Rio is PNG women's sprinter Toea Wisil who will be up against Sisilia Seavula, Makereta Naulu, Alesi Finau, Younese Bese and Elenoa Sailosi.

Fiji will field 250 athletes in what was their next step to provide a development pathway for athletes who proved themselves at the Coca‑Cola Games.

The women's 100 metres senior heats will start at 6.10 tonight while the men's 100 senior heats will be held at 6.15pm at the ANZ Stadium.

The semifinals will be held at 3pm tomorrow.

The women's 100 metres finals will be held at 7.25pm tomorrow while the men's 100 metres finals will be held at 7.30pm tomorrow.

The Melanesian Games will end on Saturday.
