Pacific Sprint King, Banuve Tabakaucoro clocked the fastest time in the 200 metres heats this afternoon to cruise through to the semifinals.
Tabakaucoro clocked a time of 21.47 seconds while Aaron Powell finished second in his heat with a time of 22.38 seconds.
He currently holds the 200 metres record which is 21.18 seconds.
Tabakaucoro’s personal best is 20.68 seconds.
Papua New Guinea’s Pio Piniau will be Tabakaucoro’s main competitor after clocking the second fastest time of 22.19secs.
Nelson Stone was the fourth fastest qualifier with a time of 22.33 seconds.
Meanwhile, the Tahitian soccer team is through to the final of the Pacific Games.
Tahiti beat Papua New Guinea 2-1 in the first semi-final.
Fiji will play New Caledonia in the second semi-final.
Looking at the Fijivillage Pacific Games medal tally, Papua New Guinea is leading with 48 gold, 37 silver and 34 bronze.
New Caledonia is in second place with 33 gold, 32 silver and 28 bronze.
Team Fiji is now in third place with 27 gold, 30 silver and 23 bronze.
