Pacific Sprint King Banuve Tabakaucoro won his 100 metres heat with a time of 10.60 seconds in the Melanesian Games last night however he failed to make the Olympic qualifying time.
His personal best is 10.22 seconds.
The qualifying time for the Olympics is 10.16 seconds for the 100 metres and 20.50 seconds for the 200 metres.
Tabakaucoro says he was just testing himself on what he could do last night.
Meanwhile, Adi Cakobau School sprinter Makereta Naulu beat Younese Bese to win her heat while Sisilia Seavula failed to win her race in the women’s 100 metres heats.
The 100 metres semifinals will be held at 3pm today.
The finals will start at 7.30 tonight.
The Melanesian Games will end tomorrow at the ANZ Stadium.
