The TISI Sangam has strongly criticized the breaking in and the alleged arson at the Gangai-Yamman Kovil Mandir in Field 40, Lautoka, this morning.
TISI President Dorsami Naidu said that it is a cowardly act and people who have committed this crime have no place in our society.
He has also called on the police to provide more regular patrolling to combat this kind of incidences in future.
Meanwhile, the hunt still continues for a group of men who broke into the Mandir and later set it alight.
Divisional Crime Officer Western, SP Vijay Singh has confirmed that the fire started at around five this morning and the Gangai-Yamman Kovil Mandir has been completely burnt down with all its contents.
The Mandir was built more that 80 years ago. It has been confirmed that all the idols and religious books have been completely destroyed.
Police believe that the thugs were looking for money and when they did not find any, they set the Mandir alight.
