Telecom Fiji Limited has welcomed the decision by the Commerce Commission to regulate the charges for services rendered by FINTEL and said this will allow cheap access to internet services to the people of Fiji.

TFL Acting CEO Sakiasi Seru said allowing cheaper access to the Southern Cross cable will definitely benefit the consumers in the future.

Meanwhile, mobile service provider Digicel Fiji Limited said it is reviewing the Commerce Commission's decision and at this stage, they feel it is too early to make an informed comment without a comprehensive review of the Commerce Commission's proposed remedies.

The decision to regulate the charges for services provided by FINTEL was done after the Commerce Commission carried out an investigation into FINTEL's market power and monopoly status.
