TFL services not a concern to Lomaiviti villagers
Telecom Manager Rural Services, Manoa Dugulele said that Government has set up satellite phones in the villages to help solve communication problems in the rural areas.
Dugulele added that the cost of setting up satellite phones amount to over $16,000 for a minimum of four phones in the village.
The teachers and Narocake District School in Lovu raised concerns that their teachers had to walk for miles to make urgent calls to Suva.
However, it was later found out that satellite phones already existed in the villages and the Prime Minister, Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama asked the villagers to use those phones, and pay whatever phone bills required of them, instead of walking for miles to make a phone call.
Dugulele added that Government is also trying to extend their services in providing all the villages in Lomaiviti with satellite phones, but that will depend entirely on the availability of funds.
