Suva stakeholders to improve tourism in capital
The Ministry of Tourism recently organised a Suva Tourism Region Taskforce meeting which discussed how to promote the Suva region and its products for tourism.
Tourism Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Josefa Tuamoto said the consultation was a good start to focus the attention on the Suva region and listen to tourism operators.
He added the consultation is part of the bigger Fiji development tourism plan which is up to 2016.
Tuamoto said Tourism Fiji is tasked to internationally market Fiji.
We have the 'Fiji Me' campaign and in the diving sector the 'Dive me' campaign.
According to Tuamoto they have different layers of work and our focus is on trade shows-meet people overseas and market Fiji product in places like the Shanghai Expo and lure potential investors.
He added there are other programs such as the consumer show where operators can sell direct to the customers, trade visitation where overseas travel agents promote local operator's products and overseas media are brought to write about Fiji and local products on offer such as wedding and holiday packages.
He also confirmed that they also do advertising during off season which is called tactical marketing.
For Suva it needs a branding campaign and try to put aspiration to the product.
