Two prominent Suva soccer players and an official have been charged by police for allegedly assaulting referee Dhiren Kewal in the semifinal of the FMF/Blue Gas Battle of the Giants soccer tournament.

Police Media Liaison Officer Atunaisa Sokomuri has confirmed the two have been charged with assault causing bodily harm and were remanded in custody overnight.

They will appear in the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

The players and the official under investigation were not happy with some of the decisions taken by referee Dhiren Kewal.

Kewal blew the final whistle with the Capital City players questioning his decision to award Labasa a penalty in injury time which gave Labasa the win.
