The Suva City Market will undergo a $1.2 million long overdue upgrade starting next month.
Suva Lord Mayor Ratu Peni Volavola said the roof for the market place will undergo a makeover as the asbestos material used for the covering is old and toxic for vendors and the general public.
Volavola adds that during the 16 week long renovation, vendors will be shifted to another spot to ensure the safety of the vendors.
The Council had decided once the asbestos is removed, it will be taken to the Naboro Landfill for proper disposal.
