Serious concerns have been raised in the High Court that certain suspects awaiting trial are being remanded at the Maximum Security Prison at Naboro.
Accused, Jonecani Nacani appeared before Judge Justice Nazhat Shameem who questioned him on the reason why he was being remanded at Naboro and not a proper remand facility.
Nacani alleged that the step was taken by the Prisons Department following rumors within the prison walls of a plot of a mass break out.
However, Judge Shameem said while it is unusual for remand prisons to be kept at the Naboro prison she cannot interfere in the discretion of the Commissioner Prisons.
Prisons Department is expected to comment later today on the matter.
