A 39-year-old villager of Lepanoni, who is a suspect in the rape and murder case of the 14-year-old girl, has been charged with raping his 16-year-old niece in Deuba two years ago.
Acting Chief of Investigations and Intelligence Luke Navela said Police came across the case of the rape of the 16-year-old girl as they were conducting investigations regarding the recent rape and murder case.
Navela confirmed that the 39-year-old man remains in custody in relation to the investigation regarding the rape and murder of the 14-year-old girl who was found dead at the Deuba beach last Monday.
Two other men are also being questioned.
However, no charges have been laid in relation to the rape and murder of the 14-year-old girl.
Meanwhile, concerns have been raised by many people regarding the identification of the 14-year-old girl.
Some media reports continue to highlight the girl’s name and photo.
According to the Media Industry Development Decree Code of Ethics, media organizations must not identify victims of sexual assaults or publish or broadcast material likely to contribute to their identification even when free by law to do so.
The Code of Ethics which is part of the decree also states that media organizations shall not identify children either as victims or witnesses in cases alleging sexual offences.
