The Ministry of Lands will soon conduct a survey in identifying illegal squatters around the Suva Nausori corridor.

Permanent Secretary for Lands Lt Col Neumi Leweni said this is part of Government's attempt to gather detailed information on individual squatters and curb future increase in squatting.

Leweni also highlighted that most squatters have manipulated the system and while living in squatter settlements, they are also earning high income.

Lt Col Leweni said the ministry is in the process of undertaking assessment to fully determine illegal and illegible squatters.

He said that once the survey is done, Government should be well informed of squatter settlers.

He added that part of the assessment would be to also identify civil servants who are living in these settlements.
