The Fiji Surfing Association will ensure surfers observe all protocols if they are to access surfing spots through villages or privately owned properties.
As the Surfing decree comes into effect from today, Association President John Philip said they have encountered problems with landowners and developers in the past.
However, he said all surfers know to observe the traditional protocols where necessary to enjoy the surfs.
The Decree permits unrestricted access to and use of any surfing area by any person for the purpose of surfing or any other water sport without having to obtain any approval from any person and without the payment of any monies or compensation for the use of any such surfing area.
