The biggest swell of the year thus far is predicted to hit Fijian shores tonight and peak early on Monday morning with waves are predicted to be in the 4-5 metre range.

Surfers from across the globe have mobilised to be on site at world famous Cloudbreak in the Mamanuca Islands for possibly the biggest waves ridden in Fiji in the last two years.

Some of the biggest names in big wave surfing will be on hand to test their skills in the dangerous condition with Ian Walsh and Shane Dorian from Hawaii, and Mark Visser from Australia are among the world’s most renowned big wave surfers and are flying in especially for this swell event.

The giant swell is a result of a massive storm in the Southern Tasman Sea.

The same swell has already been turning heads on the East coast of Australia as it marches Northwards.

Yesterday, Tasmania recorded the largest wave in Australia since records began 10 years ago.

The wave was measured at a massive 18.4 metres.
