With only a week left for the Prime Minister and Army Commander Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to step down as Commander of the RFMF, he told members of the Territorial Force and Reserve Brigade to support the new Commander.

While speaking to more than three hundred territorial forces and reserve members after a weekend camp at Nayavu in Wainibuka, he told the soldiers that they should protect the RFMF and the major changes that took place since 2006.

He said that the role of the Army is to protect the nation as enshrined in the constitution.

Commodore Bainimarama has said that more Territorial Forces and Reserves are called for duties in the Middle East.

He further said that more than 1000 territorial forces and reserve brigade are needed every year for the Tour of Duty.

He said 500 will go for peacekeeping duties while 500 will replace regular soldiers who are on Tour of Duty.

The outgoing Commander reminded them to sort out their admin issues so that they can receive their pay on time.

He said this has been a problem in the past while they are on overseas peacekeeping duties.

He stressed to the members of the TF and Reserve brigade to look after themselves and their health.

He highlighted that the MFO has restricted the age group for the Fijian soldiers to serve in Sinai to 40 years and below.

Commodore Bainimarama said that some of the Fijian soldiers are not in good health and have been sent back home.

He said this is bad news.

Commodore Bainimarama will step down as Army Commander on Friday before he forms his political movement for the general election.

The new Army Commander will take over from the 1st of March.
