An Australian rice company, Sunrice has joined hands with UNICEF in a plan to immunize about 60,000 Pacific Island infants against the killer diseases, measles and hepatitis.

UNICEF Pacific Chief of Health and Sanitation, Dr Eliab Some said they are grateful to partners like Sunrice for assisting in the on-going battle to provide timely vaccination campaigns.

Some said they are still facing life-threatening risk to Pacific children and about 20 percent on average are not immunized against measles and hepatitis.

Sunrice's commitment to the immunization program helps to fund vaccines, implement a cold chain system of transport, and distribute, store and maintain vaccine equipment.

It will also fund the training of workers to support the program.

Sunrice's Chief Executive Officer, Gary Helou said the UNICEF vaccine program will help Pacific Island states progress towards the goal of reducing child mortality.
