Lands Minister Netani Sukanaivalu has resigned from his position.

Sukanaivalu handed his resignation letter to Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday.

The outgoing minister notified the Prime Minister of his intention to return to managing his family business, where he could not dedicate quality time to as a cabinet minister.

Commodore Bainimarama has accepted Sukanaivalu’s resignation and acknowledged the immense contributions he has made towards the country’s development.

He noted that Sukanaivalu heeded the government’s call to serve his country, first as Minister for Education and then as Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, during a challenging phase in the nation’s development.

The Prime Minister said Sukanaivalu’s contributions in developing the education system are invaluable.

He said part of the change that the government has worked hard to achieve is the use of idle land for agricultural and industrial development.

Commodore Bainimarama said as Lands Minister, Sukanaivalu was influential in the set up of the Land Bank and the developments in the mining sector.

Commodore Bainimarama has now assumed the responsibilities of the Lands and Mineral Resources Minister.

When contacted in the last hour, Sukanaivalu confirmed that he will finish off today.
