The Interim Lands Minister is hopeful that most of the sugarcane land leases that is due to expire between this year and 2010 will be renewed.
Netani Sukanaivalu confirmed the Committee for Better Utilization of Lands has provided him with feedback that so far 68 percent of these land leases will be renewed.
Sukanaivalu confirmed earlier that 86 percent of land leases that expired between 1997 and 2007 have been renewed or are in the process of being renewed.
Sukanaivalu said this percentage has been achieved by working tirelessly with the various landowning units throughout the country.
