Over three hundred youths in the country committed suicide in the year 2005 -2009 while more than 500 attempted suicide.

This is according to Youths Champs Disabilities Rights and Mental Health Officer Rosie Catherine in relation to World suicide prevention day.

Catherine said that suicide is still a growing concern and that more efforts need to done by various stakeholders in addressing the issue.

Catherine said youths need to keep alert to their peers’ emotional conditions to prevent any possible signs of attempting suicide.

The event was held at Fiji National University on Friday.
