"Sugar is here to stay".

That was the message stressed by Prime Minister Commodore Voreqe Bainimarama to the members of the Ra Provincial Council yesterday.

Assistant Roko in Ra, Alifereti Raisuni said the words of encouragement from Commodore Bainimarama was uplifting as he reassured the chiefs and Tikina representatives not to worry as the Government is doing its best to revive the sugar industry.

Raisuni said that most of the farmers in Rakiraki depend on sugar and Commodore Bainimarama said he is aware of their concerns.

Some concerns raised include the problems faced by the mills, transportation and the harvesting issues.

The Prime Minister told the Council members that a meeting is currently being held in Lautoka on the Delloitte report and issues and concerns on the ailing sugar industry will be addressed.

Raisuni said Commodore Bainimarama made a visit to Yaqara after opening the meeting this morning.
